I woke up with a terrible headache, and I felt sick to my stomach. The room felt like it was spinning. I sat up feeling like I had been run over by a semi-truck. I couldn’t remember much at all.
“Here baby, drink this ginger ale. It’ll help settle your stomach,” said Neron, passing me a cold glass of soda. I took baby sips and lied back on the couch. Neron sat down next to me.
“You were beyond fucked up last night. What in the world did you drink, girl?”
“A little bit of everything. I don’t even remember much. I don’t even know how I got home,” I said, making eye contact with him.
“Gabriela brought you home. She knocked on the door and said you were passed out in the car. I brought you in,” said Neron nervously.
I narrowed my eyes and stared at him for a few seconds.
“Anything else you want to tell me?” I asked.
“Nah, nothing happened if that’s what you want to know. She tried to get me to fuck her, but I ain’t do it,” said Neron honestly, as he made direct eye contact with me.
“She what?” I repeated in disbelief.
Neron repeated himself and shook his head.
I was livid. I couldn’t even process what he’d just said. This bitch tried to seduce my man while I was passed the fuck out in her car. I stood up and marched to the bedroom. I grabbed my cell phone and immediately called Gaby. The phone rang a few times before forwarding to voicemail.
I turned around and saw Neron standing in the doorway.
“Just let it be, baby. She’s toxic. I wanted you to see for yourself and not stand in the way of you two’s friendship, but honestly you two have outgrown each other and she’s holding a big grudge over me leaving her,” he advised.
I processed what Neron was saying, but I had the devil on my shoulder, so I slipped on black leggings under my dress and threw on a pair of Jays on my feet. I looked a hot mess, but I didn’t give a fuck. I snatched my keys off my dresser and jogged towards the front door. I was getting ready to unlock the door when Neron lightly pulled me towards him.
“What is making a house call going to solve, baby?”
I knew Neron was trying to reason with me, but I was genuinely hurt and upset that she would say she wanted to rebuild our friendship, and then try and stab me in the back. We grew up together.
“I’m so fuckin’ mad, Neron! You don’t understand,” I shrieked as I cried on his chest. I was crying because I was angry. When I was angry, I wanted to fight.
“Shhhhh, it’s okay, Kimora. I know it hurts,” said Neron, trying to console me.
My friendship with Gabriela meant a lot to me growing up. We were there for each other through so many life-changing moments. Especially, when my parents got divorced. I took it so hard, yet she was always right there for me to lean on. She was more than a friend. She was like family. She was like the sister I never had. For her to try and hurt me intentionally crushed me. Her trying to come on to Neron was the last straw of us ever being friends again.
“Sit down and relax. You all dressed up like G.I. Jane or some shit,” he said, causing me to laugh amongst the tears.
I complied and sat down Indian style on the sofa, grabbing the nearest throw pillow and placing it on my lap to hold it in place for comfort. I looked over beside me and had to do a double-take. In the distance, I heard Neron’s voice, but couldn’t make out what he was saying. I was just staring at the red thong as if it could talk.
Neron came back into the living room after using the bathroom. He noticed the twisted look on my face as I stared him down. His eyes quickly went from looking at me to the thong beside me.
“What the fuck,” he mumbled as he glanced back and forth. He ran his hand over his head and blew air from his parted lips.
“Yo, man. Baby, I swear we didn’t fuck or anything. I tried to spare you the details,” he pleaded.
I stood up and placed my hands on my hips. “Tell me how in the hell did this thong get on the sofa if y’all ain’t do shit, Neron Lopez,” I shouted as my arms wailed throughout the air.
“Man, she knocked on the door and said you were passed out in the car. I told her to hold on and let me put on some clothes. I closed the door while she waited outside. I came out the bedroom, and the crazy bitch was butt ass naked. I told her to put her shirt on and she had better be dressed by the time I came back in the house with you. When I came back, she was dressed and just walked out. She must’ve placed that bullshit there while I was outside getting you,” said Neron as he defended himself.
I exhaled as I thought about his response.
“Why would I try to win you back and give you my heart just to play around with Gabriela around your back? That makes no sense, baby,” rationalized Neron, interrupting my thoughts.
“Well, she played me. You two might be on this bullshit together,” I yelled as I clenched my fists.
“Nah, sweetheart. I love you,” he vowed as he approached me and wrapped his arms around my waist. I melted as soon as he touched me.
“I love you, girl. You have my heart and, one day, you’ll wear my ring. You’re my all, Kimora. I lost you once, and I’m not going to lose you again,” promised Neron as he placed his soft juicy lips against mine.
“I believe you,” I said, gazing into his eyes.
“Um, I want to cook tonight. After drinking like that last night, I need a hearty meal. Can you run to the store and grab some stuff? I’ll whip up whatever you bring. I’m starving,” I lied.
“I got you, baby. Take that time and go shower or something. You up in here smelling like booze and Blacks,” Neron said, pinching his nose with his pointer and thumb finger and using his other hand to fan the air.
“Oh, whatever!”
Neron kissed me, rushing out the door to the store. I was going to use this free time to pay Gabriela a visit.
Chapter 22
Gabriela
I attempted to call Neron and was surprised to see that he had blocked my number. I kept redialing. I bet he had Kimora do it. I just didn’t understand why he didn’t love me. We lost a baby. He was everything to me. He still is. I would do anything for Neron. I didn’t care about Kimora’s feelings. Yeah, it sucked that I had to sabotage our friendship, but that was how much I loved Neron.
I was plotting my next move as my doorbell rang. I slipped on my fuzzy blue house slippers and shuffled my way towards my front door. As I approached the door, the person on the opposite side started pounding against it. I looked through the front door and was surprised to see Kimora standing there. Sweat beads formed on my forehead as she continued to pound on my door, shouting my name.
I opened the front door and before I could say anything, Kimora punched me right in the face. She pushed me down and walked into my house, shutting the door behind her.
“We were friends, Gabriela! Why would you intentionally hurt me?”
“I love him. You moved to Miami and left me all alone. I was verbally abused every damn day, Kimora,” I said pounding on my chest like Tarzan for emphasis. “My mother belittled me verbally so much that I started to believe the horrible things she would say. She would throw in my face how you were smarter and such a better person than I was. I never told you that because you had your own problems, and I wanted to be there for you,” I yelled so mad that I could scream. I took a deep breath and resumed talking.
“Ever since you moved away, you’ve had everything handed to you by your father. Then, you come back into town and try and take what was mine. You ruined my family! It’s because of you that he kicked me out! It was because of him kicking me out that I lost our daughter. I lost my child, Kimora!” I shouted while still lying on the floor.
“I don’t want to hear that bullshit. I didn’t force Neron to do anything that he didn’t want to do. How was I supposed to know that you were going through things at home if you never told me? Don’t use that to justify your actions, Gabriela. I’m sorry you had to go through all of that with your mother, and I’m so sorry yo
u lost your daughter. Still, to try and hurt me because you are hurting isn’t right. Stand your pathetic ass up,” Kimora demanded.
I stood up and stepped back. I touched my nose and it was leaking blood. I started laughing menacingly.
“What’s so fuckin’ funny, Gabriela? You’re delusional if you think Neron wants you. I’ve tried to be there for you. I even tried to get past you and Neron, but you just couldn’t let it be.”
I kept laughing like a maniac as Kimora stood in front of me with her arms crossed over her chest.
“I had you drugged,” I confessed as I kept laughing, getting a kick out of her facial expression.
“You what? What in the hell are you talking about?”
I tried to stop laughing, but tears cascaded down my face from laughing so hard while the blood was drying on my face from being hit in the nose.
“Last night, I had someone spike your drink,” I said, bending over in laughter.
Kimora charged at me like a raging bull. We fell down together as she pummeled my face with her fists. I was pretty sure that I saw stars. Nah, fuck that! I saw satellites. I couldn’t even get a hit in because she was tagging me so fast in the face.
“You’re a stupid, crazy bitch! I don’t even know you anymore,” screamed Kimora as she dismounted me and stood up.
She backed away as I winced in pain, still lying on the floor. I started laughing even more when I came to the realization that I just gotten my ass beat by prissy ass Kimora. I didn’t know she had hands like that.
“There was a time that I would have done anything for you, Gabriela. I loved you as if we were sisters, but now I don’t even know you. You disgust me. Stay away from us, or I’ll whoop your ass again,” Kimora bellowed as she walked out of my apartment, leaving my front door wide open.
I was going to have the last laugh. I’d make sure of that.
Chapter 23
Kimora
I couldn’t believe how trifling Gabriela turned out to be. Damn. She was really losing it. I felt bad for beating her ass, but she played with my life when she drugged me. Then, she had the nerve to laugh about it in my face. I pulled into a parking spot in Neron’s apartment complex. My hands were still trembling.
Walking into the apartment, I’d completely forgotten that I’d sent Neron to the store. Before I could think of an excuse, he was on my ass.
“You went to see Gabriela, didn’t you?”
I just shook my head, “Yes,” as I sat down on the couch.
“I see your knuckles are bruised. Why’d you have to go over to her place, baby?”
“She drugged me, Neron! I needed answers!” I shot up from the couch with a scowl on my face.
“She drugged you?” he asked in confusion.
“Yes, the bitch admitted to spiking my drink last night. That’s why I was so fucked up. Then, while she admitted this to me, she was laughing like it was hilarious are something. I don’t even know her anymore,” I yelled.
“Damn, that’s fucked up! Stay away from her unstable ass,” Neron said.
“She deserved that shit,” I replied.
“To think I would’ve been tied to her for life. Man, I miss my daughter. The shit has
really been fuckin’ with me,” said Neron.
Neron sat down. I sat next to him and began rubbing his back. He never really talked about his daughter, Mia.
“You need to grieve, baby,” I said softly as I placed my hand on top of his.
A tear slipped from his eye and landed on the back of my hand. I looked up to see him shedding a few tears. I didn’t say anything as he grieved and let everything out that he had bottled up. I leaned towards him and placed a kiss on his cheek. I stood up, trotted to the kitchen, and brought him back a shot of Crown Royal Apple. He took the glass and downed the drink.
“Thanks, baby. I just know it’ll take time for me to come to terms with her death,” he replied as he stared into space.
I stood up and walked to the hallway closet. I pulled out a big box wrapped in beautiful gold wrapping paper. Neron smiled slightly at me while standing up to help me carry the beautiful box to the sofa. He knew I was up to something.
“I had this made for you, and wanted to give it to you under a more romantic setting, but here you go, baby.”
He slowly unwrapped the gigantic box and was thrilled to see a beautiful, perfect drawing of Mia’s face. I used one of the pictures he took of her at the hospital, had a professional artist draw it up, and placed it into a beautiful 14k frame. The frame was about the size of a thirty-nine inch flat screen television. It was beautifully done.
“Wow, this is absolutely amazing, baby. Thank you so much. This is really nice,” he genuinely said as he pulled me into his embrace and kissed me with so much passion and intensity.
We spent the evening drinking wine as I cooked a lovely seafood feast for the two of us. After dinner, we hung the beautiful drawing above the television. He was in love with it. I was going to make sure Mia was never forgotten.

During the middle of the night, our sleep was interrupted when someone started shouting, “Police,” at the front door. Neron quickly threw on some sweatpants, and I threw on my robe and tied it. Neron flipped on the lamp and looked out the peephole. He turned towards me and shook his head.
“It’s the police,” he whispered.
“See what they want,” I replied, standing a safe distance from the door and unsure of what to expect.
Neron opened the door, and there stood two officers. They calmly asked if Kimora Murphy was home. I stepped closer towards the door and glanced from Neron to the two officers.
“Are you Kimora Murphy?” the gigantic officer asked.
“Yes, what’s going on?”
“We have a warrant for your arrest for the assault on Gabriela Gomez,” he responded.
“Assault? She drugged me!” I yelled. They slowly approached me as I backed away out of fear.
They roughly grabbed my arms, trying to place them behind my back. I winced in pain as they twisted my arms since I was unwilling to cooperate. Neron ran towards my aid, only to be forcefully shoved back by the other officer. Here I was getting arrested. I should have listened to Neron and not gone over there. I couldn’t believe that bitch filed a report on me.
“I’ll bond you out, baby. It’ll be okay. Call me as soon as you get your first phone call,” he said as they placed me into the back of the cop car. A tear slid down my cheek.
Chapter 24
Neron
I couldn’t believe the shit Gabriela pulled. It was like she was content on playing these childish ass games. I had to wait until Monday morning after Kimora went before the judge before she could bond out. It was Sunday. I felt bad that my princess would have to spend a night in jail. She definitely didn’t belong there. I decided to call her father and inform him about Kimora’s situation. I knew he wouldn’t be pleased at all.
“Hello,” said Kimora’s father.
“Hello, Mr. Murphy. It’s Neron. I apologize for calling at this hour. I have some fairly bad news about Kimora,” I replied.
“Hey son. I was still up anyway. What’s going on? Is my Kimora okay?” asked Dewayne.
“No sir. She and Gabriela had a falling out. Gabriela admitted to drugging her last night at a club, so Kimora went over there – against my better judgment earlier today – and did a bad number on her. The police just showed up and arrested Kimora for assault,” I responded quickly.
I heard Dewayne blow air out of his lips. I knew he was pissed. He had no idea that Gabriela and Kimora had fallen out. He had no clue about Gabriela and me either. I had to fill him in on everything that had led up to this event and he was speechless. He assured me he was going to have his lawyer fly out as soon as possible to meet with Kimora. He told me to keep him posted and thanked me for calling to update him.

I couldn’t sleep at all that night. I tossed and turned, worried about Kimora and her well-be
ing. It felt weird with her not by my side. I finally was able to drift off to sleep and, two hours later, my alarm went off.
I quickly showered, got dressed, and was on my way to the downtown jail when my cell phone rang.
“Hello,” I said into the receiver.
“Hi, is this Mr. Lopez, Neron Lopez?” the caller asked.
“Speaking,” I responded candidly.
“This is Donald Jackson, Kimora and Dewayne’s attorney. I’m calling to inform you that all charges have been dropped against Kimora. She will be released in a few hours.”
“Alright, that’s good to hear. ‘Preciate you calling me,” I said.
“My pleasure, have a great day.”
“You, too,” I responded as we ended our call.
I was happy that Kimora was getting released from jail. Since she was getting released, it only meant that Gabriela dropped the charges with her crazy ass.
Chapter 25
Kimora
I was so relieved to hear that my charges were dropped. What kind of sick game was Gabriela playing? I was not built for jail. The officers were vulgar and impolite. The holding cell was cramped and had a foul stench. There was an obese Caucasian woman that kept staring at me. I think she wanted to make me her bitch, but I would’ve seriously checked her ass if she came at me sideways. You couldn’t even use the restroom in peace. Jail definitely wasn’t for me.
After being released from jail, I walked outside and inhaled the fresh air. You would think my ass was in jail for months, but I swore it felt that way. I ran into Neron’s arms, smiling as my eyes lit up and twinkled at the sight of him. As Neron embraced me, he asked if I was okay. I gave him the quick rundown of my experience. I was fuming that Gabriela would try to put me in jail.
“Let’s just focus on moving forward, baby. I know what she did was real foul, but you can’t go to her house and beat her up again. That will land you right back in jail. Let’s just move on with our lives,” requested Neron as he stopped at a red light.
